Alita:This Girl has a Heart of Steel
I picked up a copy of Battle Angel Alita: Angel of Redemption by Yukito Kishiro back in the 90's for two reasons. The first was because, I thumbed through it in something they had back then called a bookstore and fell in love with Yukito's art style. The second reason was later when I actually read it, it was so good. It has an awesome storyline and it was way ahead of its time. I saw the movie preview for this recently and thought I would dust off the book and give it another read. Let me tell you the art and story are ageless. The backstory on this tale, just to gain your interest, starts off with a guy named Daisuke Ido who is a cyborg engineer who stumbles upon the upper half of a damaged trans-humanoid and brings her back to life. It turns out this cyborg has crazy talent, both in music and fighting, but no memory of her past life or even her name. So naturally, Ido names her after his late cat. She becomes a singer/bounty hunter and things get crazy. There are nine comics total; the one I just read is Vol 5. You can buy them on eBay or Amazon and I am telling you, you won't be sorry. There are two animations out there too and they are both very well done, so be sure to check those out as well. The movie is set to release in December so there is plenty of time to become a fan.
