For the Love of God, Please Just Go Watch The Babadook!

July 8, 2018

I never thought this movie would be one that I would like especially as a parent but the narrative is in your face if you have ever been haunted by grief.  I don't know the inspiration for this film but it was written and directed by Jennifer Kent and she embodies grief perfectly. The story is about a boy and his mother who live alone and the boy is haunted by nightmares. A mysterious book appears and makes everything worse after they read it.  They come to terms with their demons at different times and they help each other face them and learn to live them; I found this concept very compelling. You can't get rid of grief but you can learn to live with it . It can haunt you at times and sometimes it can consume you and make you into the monster. This is portrayed perfectly as the Babadook. Bravo Kent!

For the Love of God, Please Just Go Watch Jon Glaser Loves Gear!

So personally, I'm not a fan of reality television. It feels so fake and unnatural. So when a comedian makes a reality show satire that is super funny not once, but TWICE (Delocated being the other), it's something that needs to be shared. The premise is simple: Jon Glaser loves gear! What is gear? Basically, anything that you can nerd out about. So it's a very loose premise that serves the intent of showing this pushy, egomaniac using his gear that he thinks is cool. His wife refuses to show her face on video, which shows right off the bat that there's marriage problems "behind the scenes". Things only get more complicated when Jon hires an actress to play his wife and she ends up sleeping with his 'Spurt (Gear Expert). So what does Jon do? Fires both of them and puts a black box over the 'Spurt's face in the show's introduction...for the rest of the season! It gets weirder from there once Jon befriends a dog and gears him out ("OH, I KNOWWWW!"), questions what gear is exactly, and tries to keep his marriage together.       >>>>>Jon Glaser Loves Gear on Amazon

For the Love of God, Please Just Go Watch Don Verdean!

April 8, 2018

As a Christian and a person with a degree in anthropology there really isn’t a better comedy for me out there than this! It addresses an age-old issue that arises from time to time within the church; the intention is good but the action is unethical and ultimately it is damaging to the church. The bush I am trying to beat around is the falsifying of Biblical relics. Relics in medieval times meant big bucks for churches and cathedrals because pilgrims would make pilgrimages to them to pay homage. This is the point of this modern day tale. Don Verdean played by Sam Rockwell- a washed up Biblical archeologist   is commissioned by a church to find an important biblical artifact to help bring in both wayward and new followers. The desperate pastor Tony Lazarus played by Danny McBride is heaven-bent on winning people back from a competing new church in his town. The former Satanist and newfound pastor played by Will Forte smells a conspiracy and is hell-bent on exposing this blasphemous endeavor. The story as a whole is very funny and well written. The acting is great and the characters are over the top. I really enjoyed this movie and I highly recommend it. Keep in mind it is not making fun of Christians or Christianity but it does remind us how if we are to set out on a Biblical quest for a particular artifact, we need to do so with proper discretion and authority. The whole world is watching and certain protocols and procedures need to be made to ensure proper collection of both evidences and data. For the Love of God, Please Just Go Watch A Little Evil!

I watched this little gem recently and I was pleasantly surprised! It got horrible reviews but I think the wrong people are attracted to this film thinking they are getting a movie like The Omen. I think they miss the fact that it is a dark comedy and a very heartwarming tale; if you stick to it. Don’t get me wrong, this is no Little Nicky but it does have a similar charm. The story is about a man who falls in love a little too fast with a woman and they get married before he really gets a chance to get to know her son (this is a weak premise but I let it slide because it is a horror movie after all). The newlywed stepfather wants to bond with his new stepson but begins to notice some odd behavior, really odd. One freaky incident after another he gets a casual story from his wife pertaining to the boy's birth. After this, he is convinced that the boy is destined to be the Antichrist. After a disastrous event and a few close calls, the story takes a very interesting turn. Just when things are better things really go to hell and I mean that literally. This story is more funny than scary and really should be categorized as a dark comedy, not comedy-horror. It stars Evangeline Lilly who is spectacular and the very funny Adam Scott who is so very likable in this. Owen Atlas who plays Lucas is great a playing both creepy and a sweet boy. Please give this one a watch when you don’t know what else to watch. Here is the link>>>>>>>>>>> https://www.netflix.com/title/80139506

For the Love of God, Please Just Go Watch Arrested Development!

March 19, 2018

If you haven't seen it yet you will want to give this one a try. It is very cleverly written and you can watch the same episode quite a few times and catch a joke that you somehow missed. It is a sitcom about a man named Michael Bluth and his son trying to cope with the instability of his father's company and the rest of their wacky  family. The chemistry of cast members and their comedic timing is perfect. This is definitely a show that is great to binge and can easily be watched over and over again. It stars Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, David Cross, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Walter and is narrated  by Ron Howard. It has a crazy story line and reminds me of the TV show spoof, Soap. I highly recommend this TV series and I promise you it predates Modern Family and is way funnier!          Netflix!>>>>>>>>>>>>https://www.netflix.com/title/70140358
